The device consists of a compression vest, an adjustable neck pad, two forehead/chin straps, and a carrying bag, made from reinforced Oxford fabric and bamboo. The chest flaps can be folded back to allow the use of cardiac monitoring or defibrillation equipment; the device is radiolucent and can be adapted for use with children and pregnant patients. Application follows four steps: the device is first positioned behind the patient's back, centered along the spine, while the head and neck are manually stabilized. The middle and lower chest straps and leg straps are then fastened and tightened. Any gap between the neck and the device is filled with the supplied neck pad, and the head flaps are wrapped around the head and secured with the white straps around the forehead and chin. Finally, the upper chest strap is fastened and all straps are checked before the patient is carefully rolled, tilted, or lifted onto a long backboard or other spinal transport device. Use of three rescuers is recommended, and every user should carefully read the instructions and practice with the device before use.
