MD Series VS-03/2 Vacuum Splint Set

Manually activated vacuum splint set for limb immobilization

The MD Series VS-03/2 is a set of vacuum splints for rigid immobilization of injured limbs in emergency and rescue medicine. Once air is evacuated with a manual pump, the splint conforms to the shape of the limb and becomes rigid.

The set consists of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) splints with a multi-chamber filling of fine particles that lock into a rigid, body-conforming shape once the air is evacuated. Before use, the splint is unfolded on a flat surface and the filling is spread evenly; the manual pump hose is then connected to the splint's valve and a first portion of air is removed to prevent the particles from shifting. After the injured limb is placed on the splint, further air is evacuated until the desired rigidity is reached, and the valve is closed to maintain the vacuum. To remove the splint, the valve is opened to let air flow back in slowly until it softens. The product is radiolucent and can therefore remain on the patient during X-ray examinations. Cleaning is done with a clean cloth, supplemented with disinfectant if needed; the set should be checked for damage or loss of airtightness before every use. The product is a Class I medical device with CE marking and must only be used by qualified, trained personnel.
