The vacuum mattress is a medical device intended for use only by appropriately trained and authorized emergency medical personnel, in accordance with current recognized medical guidelines. After positioning the patient, the mattress is shaped around the body using its straps and buckles; air is then evacuated through the valve using the supplied pump until the mattress becomes rigid and holds its shape. The valve is then closed and the suction hose removed; further adjustments can be made for additional stability or patient comfort before checking that all straps are secure. To end use, the valve is opened to let air back into the mattress. Cleaning is performed with water and a cleaning agent; blood and other biological contamination must be thoroughly removed before disinfection, and the valve must remain tightly closed throughout cleaning and disinfection. Only alcohol-based disinfectants (ethanol/propanol) may be used; solvents must be avoided. Straps, handles, and buckles can be removed and machine-washed at 60°C. The mattress is radiolucent, features 8 carrying handles, and is supplied complete with a pump, straps, and a carrying bag. Before each reuse, the device should be checked for visible damage and airtightness; damaged straps, handles, or valves must be replaced.
